Your Move is Personal – Every House Move Has a Story
Your Move is about so much more than packing boxes and transporting furniture. Every move represents a new chapter, a fresh start, and often a big life decision.
People move house for many different reasons. You might be:
- Upsizing to make room for a growing family.
- Downsizing after the children have flown the nest.
- Moving closer to family and loved ones.
- Relocating into a care home or assisted living.
- Buying within a school catchment area.
- Moving to be closer to work.
- Starting a new job in a different city.
- Beginning a new adventure somewhere completely different.
Whatever the reason behind your move, it deserves to be as smooth and stress-free as possible.
While we can’t help you find your forever home, we can make sure getting there is the easiest part of the journey.
Preparing for Your Move
One of the biggest causes of stress during a house move is feeling like your life has been turned upside down weeks before moving day.
Our biggest piece of advice?
Pack as close to your moving date as possible.
Living surrounded by boxes for weeks creates clutter, makes everyday life more difficult, and can increase anxiety for everyone in the household.
This is especially important if someone in your family is autistic, has anxiety, or simply finds change overwhelming. Keeping your home feeling as normal as possible until the last moment can make a huge difference. In fact, this is more common than you might think, and to help we wrote a Neurodivergent moving checklist, which you can read here.
If packing feels like too much, let us help.
Our professional packing service means we can arrive the day before your move and carefully pack everything for you, saving you hours of stress while ensuring your belongings are protected for the journey.
Don’t forget to download our helpful packing guides, packed full of tips to help you prepare for moving day. If you are unsure, when we com out and give you a price ask for one with the packing service and a cost without, then you can decide.
Label everything
One of the simplest things you can do is clearly label every box.
Write the room it’s going to and, if possible, include a brief description of what’s inside.
For example:
- Kitchen – Plates
- Main Bedroom – Clothes
- Bathroom – Towels
- Office (small bedroom) – Computer Equipment
This makes life much easier for the removal team, allowing us to place everything directly into the correct room.
Less moving around afterwards means less work for you.
Keep the essentials with you
Some things are simply too important to load onto the removal van.
We always recommend keeping these items with you:
- Medication
- Important documents
- Passports
- Keys
- Mobile phone chargers
- Children’s favourite toys or comforters
- Headphones or sensory items
- Toiletries
- A few toilet rolls – to go into each loo on arrival
- Tea, coffee, mugs and a kettle if possible
- A few snacks or sweet treats to keep everyone’s energy up
Having these essentials close by can make moving day far more comfortable, especially if you’re waiting for keys or have young children with you.
Full removal service or man with a van?
This is one of the most common questions we get, the answer depends entirely on your move.
When a ‘Man with a van’ makes sense
A man with a van service is usually exactly that, one experienced mover with a Luton van or similar-sized vehicle.
This option is ideal if you’re:
- Moving between rented properties.
- Not involved in a property chain.
- Not waiting for keys.
- Collecting or delivering large furniture.
- Moving from a sold property into temporary rented accommodation.
Although it’s called a “man with a van”, it doesn’t just mean moving one or two items. The van can often accommodate the contents of a smaller property.
Because there is only one member of staff, you’ll usually need to help lift heavier furniture. That’s one of the reasons this option is more affordable.
If you’re requesting quotes, always ask whether assistance will be needed with larger items so there are no surprises on moving day.
When you need a full removal service
A full removals service is designed for complete house moves (we also move businesses too!).
This includes:
- A professional removals team.
- Larger vehicles.
- Heavy lifting.
- Furniture protection.
- Optional packing service.
- Waiting for keys if you’re in a property chain (we are quite rare in the removal industry and no not charge when we wait for keys – this can save homemakers hundreds!).
- Loading and unloading your entire home.
If you’re buying and selling a property, moving a family home, or simply want everything taken care of, a full removals service is often the best investment for a stress-free move.
