When a removal company lets you down just days before moving, finding a solution can be incredibly stressful and difficult, especially when you’re part of a large property chain. That’s exactly what happened to one of our customers in Horsforth in Leeds.
What followed was our customer asked us if we could step in, and a huge team effort involving two D&G Moves teams, two full packing services and multiple connected house moves across Horsforth and Menston.
We’re incredibly proud to say that our last-minute removals team was able to step in, help two families move on the same day and, most importantly, help rescue the wider property chain.
A last-minute removal in Leeds
Our customer was due to move from a 4-bedroom house in Horsforth, Leeds, to a larger 6-bedroom house in Menston, Leeds.
Their removal arrangements were believed to be in place, but just days before the move, the removal company they had booked was unable to accommodate them.
The completion date had come together unexpectedly, leaving very little time to find another removal company.
Unfortunately, this wasn’t happening during a quiet period either.
It was the week leading up to the August Bank Holiday, one of the busiest times of the year for house removals.
Our customer needed a solution, and they called D&G Moves to see if we could help.
We said yes!
This wasn’t just one house move
Once we understood the situation, it quickly became clear that this was much bigger than finding a van for one customer.
Our customer was moving into a 6-bedroom house in Menston.
The family currently living in that property also needed to move. They were moving from their 6-bedroom home in Menston into a 5-bedroom property, also in Menston.
Our customer’s 4-bedroom house in Horsforth was then being moved into by another couple.
Further along the chain was a first-time buyer, along with other connected buyers and sellers.
In other words, several families and properties were relying on the chain continuing.
If one move couldn’t happen, there was a risk that the whole chain could be affected.
And that meant we had to act quickly.
Two D&G Moves teams to the rescue
The very next day, D&G Moves sent two experienced removal teams to two different properties.
📦 One team headed to the 4-bedroom house in Horsforth.
📦 The second team headed to the 6-bedroom house in Menston.
Their job was to pack both entire houses and get everything ready for moving day.
This was a huge amount of work to take on at such short notice, particularly during one of the busiest weeks of the year for removals.
But we had the availability due to our large fleet of trucks and our amazing removal teams, all of which you can see more of here in our gallery.
Packing the day before the move
Our packing service was particularly important in this situation.
We generally carry out our professional packing service the day before a move, rather than leaving customers surrounded by boxes for weeks.
For these families, that meant our teams could arrive, pack both entire properties and have everything ready for the following day’s removals.
It was a busy day for our teams, but they did what they do best.
Room by room, everything was carefully packed and prepared ready for the following day, ‘moving day’.

Then came moving day
The following day, our teams were back with the vehicles and manpower needed to get the moves underway.
Our original customer could finally move from their home in Horsforth into their 6-bedroom forever home in Menston.
At the same time, the family leaving that Menston property could move into their new 5-bedroom home, also in Menston.
The couple moving into our customer’s former home in Horsforth could continue with their move too.
And further along the chain, other buyers and sellers could finally progress with their own moves.
Two moving families were successfully looked after by D&G Moves on the same day, and the wider property chain was able to keep moving.
That’s the part we’re particularly proud of.
We didn’t just save a move – we helped save the chain
When we look back at this particular job, it’s not simply the fact that we completed two removals that makes us proud.
It’s knowing that our work helped rescue an entire property chain from potential collapse, and remove the stress from a particularly stressful day for many people.
There was a first-time buyer waiting further along the chain.
There was a couple waiting to move into the Horsforth property.
There was our customer waiting to move into their larger forever home in Menston.
And there was the family leaving that property and moving into their new home, also in Menston.
And who knows how many more people were connected further along the chain?
We may never know exactly how many families were affected.
But we do know that our teams played their part in making sure the chain could continue.
A huge team effort
Jobs like this don’t happen without teamwork.
When several properties are connected, communication between removal teams is incredibly important.
Our teams worked together throughout the process, coordinating timings, access and when properties were ready for the next stage of the move.
Last-minute changes could be communicated quickly, and everyone knew what needed to happen next.
It wasn’t simply about having enough vans.
It was about having the people, experience and teamwork to make a complicated situation work.
And our staff really did go above and beyond.

Why our investment in our fleet matters
Over the years, D&G Moves has made a significant investment in our fleet of removal trucks and Luton vans.
We’re incredibly proud of that investment because it gives us the capacity to respond when customers need us.
In this particular situation, it meant we could send two teams to two different properties (last-minute on top of the other removals we had on that day), and pack two entire homes at very short notice and then return the following day to complete the moves.
Having the vehicles is important.
But having the experienced people to drive them, coordinate the moves and work together is just as important.
That’s what made this particular rescue possible.
Last-minute house removals in Leeds
We’re increasingly seeing house moves come together with less and less notice.
Completion dates can suddenly be confirmed.
Chains can move quickly.
Plans can change.
And sometimes, customers find themselves needing a last-minute removal company when their original arrangements can no longer go ahead.
While we’d always recommend booking your removal company as early as possible, we understand that moving house doesn’t always work that way.
Sometimes you simply have to react to the situation in front of you.
That’s where our experienced team can help.
Our last-minute removals service is designed to be flexible wherever possible, with our fleet, experienced staff and packing services giving us the capacity to respond to unexpected situations.
Of course, we can’t guarantee that we’ll always have availability at very short notice.
But we’ll always look at what we can do.
Last-minute packing services
Packing an entire house can be one of the most time-consuming parts of moving.
And when you’re given only a few days’ notice, it can feel like an impossible task.
That’s why our professional packing service can be such an important part of a last-minute house move.
For these two families, our teams were able to pack their entire homes the day before the removals.
It meant they didn’t have to spend weeks living amongst boxes, while also giving our removal teams a clear plan for moving day.
It’s just another example of how being able to provide both packing and removals throughout Yorkshire can make a complicated move much easier to coordinate.
